3.What are the minimum system requirements for Maxwell Render?
Please see the Documentation section for system requirements.
4. Do I have to install my plug-in separately?
Yes, you should download your plug-in from the download page and run it as a separate installation. The plug-ins are not included in the Maxwell installer, and if you do not download and install your plug-in, your 3D/ CAD application won't recognize Maxwell Render.
5. I am trying to run the installation but it is not working. What is wrong?
First of all, please make sure you have downloaded the Maxwell Render application properly and completely from the download area. You should download the full application, not just a patch. Also make sure you are running the installer as an administrator. If you are not an administrator, it could be that you do not have the proper permissions to install a new software. If the problem persists, then please contact our sales support team. Please send as much information and screen shots as possible so that we can quickly spot the problem.
6. Can I combine/merge all my license texts into just one license text?

To merge them together, go to your main computer (the one that currently has your old license) and open the Maxwell application (not Studio).

From Help>License Info, you should see that Maxwell recognizes your current license.

Press the Add button to add the new license info to the old one. In the blank panel that will pop up, paste your new license info (that came in the confirmation email you received after purchasing your new license).

Press Ok and Maxwell should recognize and sum both licenses. After closing this panel, Maxwell will merge both licenses into one single license.txt file.

IMPORTANT: The same license.txt file containing all the licenses you own must be placed in all you computers. So, find the license.txt file in your main machine (this can be My Documents/Maxwell in Windows, /users/<user>/Maxwell in Mac, or /home/<user>/Maxwell in Linux) and copy it to your new computer, place it in your Maxwell application folder (where the Maxwell application is installed) and run Maxwell after that. This forces Maxwell to recognize the new license file.

Having the merged license file in all your computers using Maxwell is the way to manage several licenses.

If you purchase more licenses in the future, you will have to reproduce the same process: add the new license to the existing ones, and propagate the new merged license.txt file to all your rendering computers.

7. Do my version 1.x and version 2.x licenses work together?

Maxwell Render version 2 license keys are accumulative, so your license key will work together with any other Maxwell Render version 2 licenses keys you may have, and Maxwell Render will automatically recognize all the licenses in all the version 2 license keys on your computer.

If you are working with the latest version of Maxwell Render, there is a straightforward way to put your various license keys together and keep a running total of licenses owned. Please open Maxwell.exe (in Windows) or Maxwell.app (in Mac OSX) and click Help > License Info. A pop-up screen will appear with an “add” button in the bottom left corner. By clicking on "Add" you will be able to add new license keys to the license keys already on your system, and a running total will be displayed.

Please make sure you are not mixing old v1.7 licenses keys with new v2 license keys, as they won’t work together.

8. How can I connect computers when using Render Node licenses?

You just need to put them in network through Wi-fi or network cable. The computers must be connected in a local network ensuring that they can "see" and recognize each other.
9. Where is my Maxwell Render license key stored?
Once you have run Maxwell.exe (Win) or Maxwell.app (Mac), the software creates a Maxwell user folder in your personal folder. This can be My Documents/Maxwell in Windows, /users/<user>/Maxwell in Mac, or /home/<user>/Maxwell in Linux. Your license key will be stored in this folder once you have licensed the software.
10. I can't find my license key. How can I find out where it is stored?
Open Maxwell.exe (Win) or Maxwell.app (Mac). The console window will specify where your license key is located, stating: "License found in..."
11. I cannot save my license text in the Maxwell installation folder. What can I do?
Make sure you have administrator permissions on your computer. If you are not an administrator, or if you are not logged-in as such, you might not have the proper permissions to save the file in the installation folder.
12. I have put the license text in the Maxwell Render installation folder, but Maxwell Render is still running in demo mode. What am I doing wrong?
If there are any other files called "license" or similar located in the installation folder, remove them. Ensure that you have not changed anything in the license text: do not remove any characters or change the text inside your license file. If Maxwell Render keeps running in demo mode, then contact our Sales Support team, sending a copy of your license file so that we can check if it is working.
13. I use the License Info panel to license Maxwell, but the process seems to fail. Can I generate the license file manually?

Yes, you simply have to paste your licensing information in a blank text file (with any text editor), and save it as license.txt. Store that license file inside the Maxwell application folder and run Maxwell from there. This way you force Maxwell to recognize the license and automatically move it to its final location (inside your User>Documents>Maxwell subfolder) when it will look each time you run Maxwell. Note that you have to save the license file as a txt file, not rtf or any other format as that will introduce extra characters in the file and make the license file invalid.

This process is equally applicable on both Windows, OSX and Linux.
